Bangon-Bugtong Falls is one of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring tourist attractions worth visiting in the province of Samar. It is a perfect getaway for adventurers – a unique trekking experience before embracing the breathtaking view of the falls. It is located in Victoria, Northern Samar and considered as the pride of Allen and San Isidro. It is also a potential source of hydro-electric power which will serve Calbayog City and it’s neighboring localities.

The trek to the waterfall

Actually, the waterfall is a system of cascades. To get to the main falls, you have to pass along the cascades themselves. You will pass Larik Falls on the trail at about 2 kms, and if you continue onwards, you will reach Tarangban about 1 km further up the trail. It is a long journey but well worth it.

The reward of the trek

The breathtakingly view of the falls is a pleasure that only nature can afford to give. The waterfall has its own way of uplifting the feeling of every tourist who visits the place. Swimming after the long journey is refreshing one. There is a circular pond of about 30 meters in diameter which is wide enough for swimming and deep enough for diving.

A travel to Bangon-Bugtong Falls

By Land: From Manila, there are several bus companies that have daily trips to the province. Most of these bus companies are located along EDSA-Cubao in Quezon City, Metro Manila.

When traveling in a private vehicle from Manila, Northern Samar may be reached via the Pan Philippine Highway. When you reach the port of Matnog in Sorsogon, you will have to disembark and take the “roll-on roll-off” (Ro-Ro) system and you will have to ride on a ferry boat which will cross San Bernardino Strait to the town of Allen, which is located on the northwest part of the province. From Allen, you will travel along the highway to Catarman.

Travel time from Manila to Catarman by bus is 14 to 16 hours.

By Air: Three airline companies service the province. Zest Air, Cebu Pacific, and PAL Express fly from Manila to Catarman, the capital of Northern Samar. Flights are usually in the morning. Travel time is approximately 1 hour.
