Agno: The Home of Umbrella Rocks

The rustic town of Agno is characterized by beautiful rolling terrains and rice fields, all of which you could see on the way to the town proper. As you near the Poblacion, the town plaza, the road passes along the beautiful Mabini River, which in turn meets with the South China Sea further west.

Agno is gifted with natural wonders. Its land is very productive in rice, mangoes, vegetables, and root crops, and abundant in bamboos and coconuts. It also possesses a vast fishing ground of milkfish or “bangus,” and big fish like tuna and blue marlin.

Agno’s Prided Attractions

The peaceful town of Agno is also the home of Sabangan Beach and the Famous Umbrella Rocks. These prided attractions are one of the reasons why tourists find the place a pleasurable one.

Just about a three-hour drive from Reynando, Bayambang, Sabangan Beach with its Umbrella Rocks has a diverse marine eco-system showcasing beautiful corals and different sea creatures. Surrounded by crystal clear blue water, the beach is a good place to spend your leisure time. You can do different activities like swimming, snorkeling, and diving.

Another quite interesting thing is the Umbrella Rocks. These are mushroom-shaped boulders dotting the mouth of the Balincaguing River in Sabangan. Agno town is sometimes called the "Umbrella Rock Country" because of these amazing geological formations. Every tourist who goes to Agno learns to love the place because of the panoramic view of Sabangan Beach and its fern-decorated boulders that have the appearance of curved umbrellas.

The dazzling beauty of umbrella rocks is a work of the natural elements through a number of geological periods. The rocks that resemble gigantic umbrellas or mushrooms were formed by the incessant lapping of tidal waves against the shore through the centuries.
