BBQ Republic

It was Saturday again, and after our usual airing of Vigattin Radio Program at DZIQ 990 AM, we found ourselves at the door of BBQ Republic along Wilson St., Greenhills, San Juan. Upon entering, warm smiles from the staff greeted us. The ambiance was welcoming and the presence of mirrors made the room look more spacious. It wasn't a busy time of the day, so we were treated like special guests because the crew kept serving us soup and offering us rice or tea or something. We ordered fried chicken karaage, chicken thigh fillet, and beef with garlic. Honestly, I liked them all - no sugarcoating there!

After eating, I got the chance to interview the restaurant owner, Jon Nicholas Lao, and he told us a little bit about BBQ Republic. It was officially launched last September 21, 2012, and although it isn't as popular as the other restos out there, it is steadily building up its customer base (which includes us, because I swear I'm gonna come back there soon). His two brothers are also helping out in this business and I was surprised to find out that the youngest was the one doing the marination of the barbecues by himself. He has no culinary background - just a real passion for making delicious food.

I haven't seen resto owners eat their own food. But Jon admitted that he and his brothers do! That's how confident they are with their food, which made me enjoy mine as well.

By February 15 this year, they will be introducing 8 other variants of barbecue sauces to add to their menu. They are also planning to make meriendas like salads and tacos. Before leaving, we were given Buy 1 Take 1 coupons. :)

So, if you ever pass by Wilson St., don't forget to check out BBQ Republic. For as low as 99 pesos, you can satisfy your barbecue craving!
