With its fine white sand, pristine water, and the lush expanse of trees that grow within its landscape, Cagayancillo Island exudes a restful atmosphere and perfect getaway for every traveler.

Cagayancillo is the closest settlement to the Tubbataha National Marine Park. The word Cagayancillo is Spanish for "Little Cagayan." Cagayancillo is the smallest municipality in the province of Palawan, comprising different islands revealing their own beauty.

Tourism

Cagayancillo Fort is one of the surviving defense forts in Palawan, built during the Spanish colonial period. Construction of the fort started in the late 16th century, led by Father Nicolas Melo and Father Alonso Colosa. The process of building the fort spawned over a century and completed in the early 18th century by Father Hipolito Casiano.

Cagayancillo Fort is a wonderful sight with its walls made out of sea rocks co-mingling with lime. The church inside is truly a solemn place built to maximize your stay in Palawan. It was built on a high point at the coast. Like some of the other Spanish forts in this area, its massive 12-meter-high and 3-meter-thick walls surround the church, providing a safe place for the residents during marauding pirate attacks in the olden times.

Tourists who visit the historical fort will also have a chance to discover the Tubbataha National Marine Park. The marine sanctuary is home to a wide variety of animals including manta rays, lionfish, tortoise, clownfish, and sharks.
