Dolphin and Whale Watching in Bais City

Are you a dolphin lover? Honestly, in my entire life I haven’t seen a dolphin yet. Many people say that dolphins intrigue people. Why? Because they possess a unique intelligence and playful spirits that gives much pleasure to every tourist. As I go through, let me tour you to one of the famous destination where you can have a deep appreciation of this creature – Bais City.

Bais City is a rustic town in Negros Oriental. In its recent years, it became a haven for dolphin and whale watching not only in the Philippines but also throughout Asia.

Off the coast of Bais City at Tañon Strait between the islands of Negros and Cebu, one can get a one-of-a-kind experience with the sea's very friendly and intelligent creatures. Tañon Strait is where the famous playful dolphins and whales are sighted.

Dolphins Sightseeing

To make this experience even more memorable, boats manned by a marine biologist and a spotter are available for charter making the trip most educational, aside from making us more appreciative of the beautiful marine life around us. The months of May and September are ideal for this activity when playful dolphins surface from their natural habitat to put up an acrobatic show for enthusiasts.

I guess after reading this write-up, Bais City will be one of your top must-see destination spots.

How to get there

Dumaguete City is the primary gateway to Oriental Negros with direct air and sea transport links to major cities such as Manila and Cebu. Negros Oriental is accessible via air, sea, and land routes, depending on where you are coming from.

• By plane: From Manila there is a daily flight going to Dumaguete City. The entire travel time will consume 1 hour and 10 minutes.
• By land: Ceres Lines buses that leaves a few hours apart from its Cebu station to the town of Bato. From Bato, the bus will board a barge which will stop in Amlan, Negros. The bus will then disembark from the barge and take its passengers to Dumaguete City. The estimated travel time is 5 hours at normal speed.

Bais is located 44.7 km from the provincial capital Dumaguete. From the city, you may board the jeepney at the Dumaguete – Bais terminal.
