The recently concluded Ideaspace 2014 National Startup Competition has given ten startup the opportunity to accelerate their company. Each of the ten tech startups were awarded an early-stage funding worth at least Php 1 million that consists of seed investment, training and services.

Ideaspace’s Winning Startups on Vigattin Radio

The recently concluded Ideaspace 2014 National Startup Competition  has given ten startup the opportunity to accelerate their company. Each of the ten tech startups were awarded an early-stage funding worth at least Php 1 million that consists of seed investment, training and services.

Last Saturday on Vigattin Radio, four of the ten startups that won the competition has been invited to guest on the most promising-tech radio program in the Philippines. With co-anchors Mr. Den Macaranas and Ms. Arne Barcelo.

They are joined by Mr. Dustin Mansacay (Associate Director for Ventures of IdeaSpace), Mr. Jaaf Garcia (CEO of WattSmart), Mr. Stephen Larcia (Co-founder & CEO of R-Tap), Mr. Joshua Dela Llana (Founder and CEO of Tactiles) and Ms. May Montero (CEO & Costumer Acquisition Officer of Tambio).

The first to talk on Vigattin Radio was Mr. Dustin Masancay of Ideaspace, he is also the Manila Chapter Director of Startup Grind (a global startup community that aims to educate and inspire entrepreneurs). He was recently named as one of the global shakers from the Philippines.

As an Associate Director, he told Vigattin Radio that his responsibility is to structure the terms of how a startup will get a funding and on how much is the budget needed for support once they are on incubation until they graduate on the program of Ideaspace.

He added that they are helping the winners of their competition to get more funding from other investors and make sure that their value increases.

Vigattin Radio later interviewed the other guests. The first to talk is Mr. Jaaf Garcia, he explained on how WattSmart works. WattSmart is an an online realtime energy management platform to help you understand your electricity consumption. WattSmart can help hotels, restaurants, offices, schools, and other businesses reduce their electricity costs.  Jaaf is an electrical and energy engineer.

Afterwards,  Mr. Stephen Larcia told Vigattin Radio that R-TAP is short for Real-time adjusting pump style and is a smart water management tool that optimizes the operation of pumps in a water distribution system. R-TAP  will help water service providers gain savings from water loss reduction, power consumption reduction, and extended asset lifespan, among others. 

Stephen has 5 years of work experience in Maynilad, the leading water solutions company in the country, and as volunteer work, acted as consultant to the waterworks in his home town in Batangas.

Meanwhile Mr. Joshua Dela Llana of Tactiles said that their product is a hardware kit for basic electronics education.   It is a learning tool where one can remove their fear out of engineering. Joshua has a strong background in electronics engineering, hardware automation and software programming.

He told Vigattin Radio, “Engineering or electronics as a whole is considered as one of the most difficult subjects in the world and there are such a lot of people in the world that actually fear it.” He continued that their product is meant to cease this fear of students who are taking engineering or electronic courses and have them enjoy their course.

Later on, Ms. May Montero of Tambio explained that Tambio is an advertising platform for companies that conducts some raffle. So if one wants to know anything about their mechanics, draw dates etc., they can easily check it in Tambio.

She told Vigattin Radio, “It will be a raffle reference and we make sure, that all the raffles in Tambio are approved by DTI and also FDA. So we want to make sure that it is credible.”

These startups are just one of the many budding tech companies which develops new innovations and development over the tech market. With the yearly contest of Ideaspace for tech startups who want to have some early funding, it’s a big help to them to show the world that Filipinos can also have ideas that might be able shake the world.

Tambio, R-TAP, WattSmart, Tactiles and the other winners of this year’s Ideaspace tech startup contest represents a wide variety of tech solutions for the emerging tech industry of the Philippines. Their potential to succeed is not just limited here but they can also penetrate the global tech scene and Ideaspace supports these young innovators who are willing to take risks and accept challenges.
