Shaped by the Chanum Foundation in 1998 and fastly became one of the tourist destinations in Baguio City, Tam-awan Village is an artist collection of Ifugao and Kalinga huts that combines indigenous aesthetics and exquisite Cordilleran craftsmanship. It is a venue for art exhibits, workshops and other activities that showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Cordillera people.
Tam-awan means “vantage point”, an apt name for a colony of Cordillera Huts that sits on a hillside. On a clear day, a magnificent China Sea sunset can be viewed from Tam-awan Village, being true to its name as Tam-awan, that is, vantage point.
Before you explore the Tam-awan Village, there is a minimal entrance fee. The worth trip will include an exploration to the Art Gallery, a Coffee Shop, and different huts and areas used for workshops. There is also an Ifugao house, Kalinga House, and different huts named after the areas where they come from. From Ifugao, there is Bangaan Hut, Anaba Hut, Batad Hut, Dukligan Hut, Kinakin Hut, and Nagor Hut. Kalinga Huts are from Luccong and Bugnay. Except for Bugnay Hut, which serves as one of the village’s galleries, lodgers are accepted in these huts.
To make your trip more memorable, just right across the Tam-awan Village is Philippine sculptor Ben Hur Villanueva's gallery-workshop-cafe and residence, where everyone is welcome to see him and his artwork on display. Ben Hur Villanueva is a former instructor at the Ateneo de Manila University.
Want a glimpse of a village life? Then you have found the perfect destination. Tam-awan Village keeps the spirit and cultural heritage of Cordillera people designed for those who don’t have the chance to explore the different parts of the region.
