Bohol is one of the most beautiful places in the Philippines as it is blessed with many amazing natural attractions.  Adventurers love this island-province because it offers a lot of activities and possibilities for the satisfaction of every traveler, like the many fascinating caves that dot the island.  To date, there are around 1,400 caves that have been discovered throughout the island of Bohol and perhaps there are still a few more left unexplored. One of the most noted caves that the province offers is Buhong Tiawan Cave that continues to enthrall its many visitors.

Located in the peaceful town of Antequera, Buhong Tiawan is a magnificent specimen of a limestone cave with many stalactites and stalagmites and different types of dripstone. To reach the entrance of the cave, one would have to walk about a kilometer through dense vegetation then on to the wall of a limestone hill. The entrance itself is about 3 by 5 meters wide, and leads to a cavern that is less than 100 meters long.

Historical Significance

Buhong Tiawan also served as a refuge for the locals during the World War II; however, the cave was discovered by the Japanese, who raided it immediately.

How to get there

Located in the town of Antequera, one has to walk about one kilometer through dense vegetation to reach the mouth of the cave.

Bohol is located in the Central Philippines, and can be conveniently reached by air or boat. From Manila, just take a flight to Tagbilaran, which takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. It is also possible to take a boat to Bohol, but will take 25 hours, and is only advisable if you have plenty of time at hand and enjoy a trip on sea, or have to travel on a rock-bottom budget or with a lot of luggage. Currently, there are numerous daily flights from Manila to Tagbilaran.

Many buses, jeepneys, and multicabs ply the interior route to and from Tagbilaran City. It is a lot cheaper if you avail of this local transport. However, vans and taxis are also available but usually charges 50% more if traveling outside Tagbilaran City. It is not hard to locate the Municipality of Loboc because it lies along the riverbanks. The old and massive stone church of Loboc is your landmark. The church is right beside the road, and at the opposite side of the road, you will see the Loboc River.
