Calawagan River Resort

The province of Occidental Mindoro is one of the few places in the Philippines that can boast of well-preserved natural resources and wonders. It has a lot of exciting and interesting places that have lured visitors from all over to come see its many unique attractions.

Here is some of the man-made attractions the province takes pride of:

• Presing Park is located in Lumang Bayan, Sablayan. The park is a five-hectare park frequented by locals who seek relaxation. Overlooking the sea, the park enjoys cool breezes blowing landwards. At the middle of the park is displayed a 15th century cannon believed to have been used against pirates. A grotto of Our Lady of Fatima is visible at the far end of the park.
• Run by the municipal government, Calawagan River Resort is a one-and-a-half-hectare resort situated on a riverbank at Barangay Alipaoy. Since 1976, it has been operated and managed by the local government, servicing local residents and the visitors from neighboring towns.
•  Mamburao Beach Resort is within a completely secluded cove covering 14 hectares of developed beach resort amidst coconut trees. It has a four-kilometer long light sand beach. The place is ideal for swimming, boating and scuba diving, wind surfing, snorkeling, deep sea fishing and water skiing. Water sport such as glass-bottomed boat, speedboat, hobbie cat and outrigger boats are available for guests.

Some local airlines fly from Manila to San Jose on a regular basis, taking about an hour. Moreta Shipping operates a roll-on/roll-off ferry service from Manila to San Jose weekly. An alternate, similar service from the port of Batangas City takes from 12 to 16 hours also. The provincial highway of Occidental Mindoro links most of the towns from north to south. Local bus and jeepney operators ply the route from the northermost town of Abra de Ilog all the way to San Jose.
