The Many Reasons to Visit Tulapos Marine Sanctuary in Siquijor

The Many Reasons to Visit Tulapos Marine Sanctuary in Siquijor

Even though Siquijor is a small city in Central Visayas, it still takes pride in the fact that it is surrounded with the splendor of nature, lending an exquisite charm to this provincial capital.  Of all its many attractions, the Tulapos Marine Sanctuary in Tulapos, Enrique Villanueva, continues to draw visitor to its unique sights and its endeavor to protect the environment.  The reasons why one should visit the place are:

1. From its foundtion in 1986, the Tulapos Marine Sanctuary spans around 14 hectares of shoreline, beaches, mangrove forest and coral reefs that are home to many species of flora and fauna, some of which cannot be found anywhere else.
2. Considered as the oldest existing sanctuary in the province, the sanctuary is a protected marine area in the Philippines because of its diverse marine ecosystem.
3. Snorkeling is the main activity that the sanctuary offers. Visitor will surely enjoy the dive site as they encounter colorful species of fish and other marine creatures.
4. Aside from the vast marine sanctuary, Tulapos also encompasses a very large mangrove forest. Thanks to the conservation efforts of the locals, the mangrove have thrived and had become a forest by itself.  it is now home to many species of wildlife that can only be found in this unique kind of ecosystem.  There is also a mangrove tree house where one can get a great bird's eye view of the marine sanctuary.
5. Tulapos itself is an attraction. The hilly and mountainous terrain with lush vegetation forms a breathtakingly view that gives delight to its visitors.
7. A very minimal fee of 50 pesos is charged for the tour but it is a small price to pay to be able to go on such an amazing adventure.

 

Getting there

From Manila, there are flights going to Dumaguete City. From the city, you need to take a fast craft to the island. Then from Siquijor, you can take a jeepney or motorbike to Tulapos, which is more or less a kilometer from the town proper.
