The Newly-Renovated La Filipina Cemetery

Transforming a public cemetery into a modern memorial park concept is not an easy task. But how could this challenge of transforming the existing cemetery into a “memorial park type” public cemetery embarked?

The local chief executive – mayor – took the risk of implementing this project even though it would affect his political popularity because of oppositions from various sectors on the belief that rehabilitating the old, congested and dilapidated public cemetery would have an adverse effect on the culture of people.

Despite the tremendous criticisms he received as he started the project, he exercised his political will consistently and achieved success when the project gained positive feedbacks for the convenience enjoyed by the general public.
