Treasure behind the New Bilibid Prison: Jamboree Lake

The National Bureau of Prison Reservation is not only a home for criminals; it is also a place where some of historical landmarks of Muntinlupa stand. The prison houses schools and housing projects. But one of its best attractions is Jamboree Lake – the smallest lake in the Philippines. The lake was declared as historical site as per city Ordinance No. 99-020.

Jamboree Lake is within the New Bilibid Prisons compound. Bordering the lake is a park when one can have relaxation and commune to nature. Bird watching, fishing, and picnic are three of the activities that tourists can do during their visit.

The lake is also a favorite hangout spot for nature lovers, as well as ordinary passers-by looking for a cool respite from the tropical heat. The lake has been in existence since time immemorial.

How to get to Jamboree Lake:

Alabang is the closest gateway to Jamboree Lake. From there, ride a jeepney going to Katarungan Village. Once you have crossed the South Luzon Expressway, and see the steel arch of the NBP and a bust of its former director, you’re a few meters away. Anyway, you can see the lake once you’ve passed those landmarks.

Accommodations in the city are also available. There are lots of inns and hotels throughout the town offering comfortable rooms and cottages at a reasonable price.
