Vigattin Radio on Tourism and Technology

It was a very interesting Saturday at another special edition of Vigattin Radio at Radio Inquirer 990 AM as there were several features lined up for the day's discussion, which include the Manila Venetian Hotel,Geeks on a Beach and the PTAA, or Philippine Travel Agencies Association.

Fisrt up was the engaging feature on Manila Venetian Hotel, one of the newest and hottest places in the metropolis.  On hand was no other than its amazing owner, Mary "May" Fernando Tauyan.  This enterprising woman has had a hands-on approach to managing the business and has had considerable success with the Manila Venetian Hotel. Opening just this May of this year, they have had a successful dry run and has engaged its online booking services and has tied up with Vigattindeals.com in bringing wonderful packages and offers to its accommodations and services, such as a promo rate of P990 for an overnight stay inclusive of breakfast from the usual P3,376.  And there's a Vigattindeal on a family room for only P2300 instead of the usual P5776.

What makes Manila Venetian Hotel a cut above the rest are their comfortable rooms, with uniquely designed beds and interiors and Venetian-inspired theme with that European feel.  With 25 rooms on 5 floors, one will feel the luxury and comfort extended to each and every guest.  As for the food, they are not to be outone with their specialties including traditional Filipino menus and international cuisine.

Security is assured and the hotel has the ideal location to take advantage of those wishing to go shopping as it is near Divisoria. Travel is facilitated by being near the LRT and is accessible to the many routes in the city.  Miss Mae invites everyone to try out the best in service, food and accommodations at Manila Venetian Hotel.

The next to be featured was Geeks on a Beach, the newest conference that features technology and startups and how these can change the world.  On hand via phone patch was Tina Amper, founder of TechTalks.ph.  She talks of Geeks on a Beach as a coming together of great minds and those at the grassroots level to have great discussions about innovation, startups and technology, at one of the best beaches in the world, Boracay, on September 26-27. Miss Tina says it will be headed by experts from all around the world, particularly Silicon Valley entrepreneur Bowei Gai, all in a friendly atmosphere where people get together to share and learn and build meaningful networks.  Miss Tina outlined some of the events that would be happening at Geeks on the Beach, which include panel discussions, lunch talks, and the closing of the World Startup Report by Bowei Gai.  Miss Tina was also very pleased with Vigattin.coms support that she said they were going to give the listeners of Vigattin Radio a 20% off of the registration fees.

Then there was the feature on the Philippine Travel Agencies Association or PTAA.  On hand to share what the PTAA was all about was its president John Paul M. Cabalza.  Mr. Cabalza shares with the audience the state of Philippine tourism, that despite setbacks, the tourism sector is doing just fine. They said that the PTAA has been working hand in hand with the Department of Tourism to address concerns, open new opportunities and improve on existing systems to bring more jobs and income to more Filipinos.  He mentions of the target of 5.5 million arrivals for the tourism sector. He highlights the opening of Philippine Airlines flights to Europe and how this can increase arrivals and opportunities from that continent.  He also highlights domestic tourism, which has grown significantly in recent years thanks to LCCs, or low cost carriers, allowing more people to travel to more destinations around the country at lesser cost.

Mr. Cabalza stresses how tourism has a multiplier effect on local economies, that as the demand for tourism grows, so does the demand for other products and services, which brings more jobs to more people and more opportunities to become prosperous.  He says that the PTAA and the Department of Tourism hold trainings and seminars to improve people and their skills related to tourism, and that people should inquire about them as these hold opportunities to earn and improve.
