A wondrous name

Amanpulo is named after the Sanskrit word for peace “aman” and the Tagalog word for island “pulo”. The entire island of Pamalican is dedicated to Amanpulo, fringed by seven square kilometres of pristine coral reef and lapped by the tranquil Sulu Sea.

A luxury

Amanpulo is one of the best retreats that you will have in your lifetime. A perfect getaway

For island hoppers who want a perfect escapade, the island offers different recreational facilities that will give much enjoyment to every tourist. The resort’s casitas are situated on the beach, amongst the treetops or on the hillside overlooking the Sulu Sea. According to their home page, they have the following facilities:

• The Restaurant is located at the Clubhouse and extends onto a terrace with views to Manamoc Island across the sea. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served and the menu features Asian and Continental cuisine.
•  Amanpulo’s marble-top Lobby Bar occupies a cozy corner of the Clubhouse and offers a terrace with views of the sea and Manamoc Island.
•  Amanpulo’s 30-metre swimming pool mirrors the Sulu Sea with its aqua tiles. Bordered by two bougainvillea trellises, there are also three spacious open-air salas situated around the pool. These shade generously-sized mattresses ideal for all-day lounging.
•  A garden walkway leads down from the pool to the white-sand beach, lined with shade umbrellas and reclining lounge chairs. This is the tranquil setting for Amanpulo’s Beach Club which features an open-air pavilion and deck scattered with mattresses and pillows. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, tapas and refreshments are offered with fresh seafood and Spanish cuisine a specialty.
• Located on the east side of the island, the Lagoon Club serves as a second Beach Club with similar amenities. Dinner is served with Vietnamese cuisine a specialty.
• Open for lunch, the Windsurf Hut and Picnic Grove offers a large variety of pizzas cooked in a traditional wood-fired oven. This is casual, feet-in-the-sand dining at its best.
• The Library is stocked with novels in several languages, travel guides, newspapers, magazines and coffee-table books on Philippine art, design and culture. DVDs and CDs are also available.
• Amanpulo’s three shops specialize in woven rugs, baskets, jewellery, pottery and other crafts from the Palawan region, as well as Asian antiques, furniture and resort wear.
• Situated on a hillside with views of the Sulu Sea, Amanpulo's Aman Spa consists of a series of pavilions constructed of native wood and other natural materials. The Reception Pavilion includes a lounge and retail space on the entry level, and a Finishing Salon on the floor below for manicures, pedicures and hair appointments. Each treatment room offers a deep-soaking bath tub, washroom, dressing area and steam shower, along with magnificent sea views. The Yoga and Meditation Pavilion also enjoys beautiful views and is available for private or group classes. The Fitness Pavilion houses the Pilates Studio, a fully-equipped gymnasium, wet areas including steam rooms and cold plunge pools, and outdoor relaxation areas.
• Four floodlit tennis courts are available with rest pavilions for refreshments. Two courts are located adjacent to the Clubhouse and two are located adjacent to the West Villa Clubhouse. Complimentary tennis balls, rackets and playing partners can be arranged.
• Adjacent to the Beach Club, the Sea Sports Hut offers a variety of water sports equipment, as well as information on boat charters, water sports, sea conditions and snorkelling/scuba diving sites.
• Located on the northwest side of the island, the Dive Centre offers PADI courses ranging from introductory to Divemaster levels.
• A platform bamboo raft afloat in the Sulu Sea, the Kawayan Bar is ideal for spending the day lounging, swimming and snorkeling offshore. It can also host picnics and private evening barbecues.
• The West Villa Clubhouse is ideal for private functions whether personal celebrations such as weddings and anniversaries, or corporate gatherings including board meetings and presentations. Theatre and audiovisual equipment is available.
• Amanpulo can arrange a marriage ceremony or renewal of vows in a variety of romantic settings. These include the white-sand beach at sunset, the outdoor chapel known as the ‘Grotto’, under the bougainvillea-decked, poolside trellis and at sea in a boat festooned with island flowers. Blessings include a guitar serenade, champagne, wedding cake, a decorated wedding car and a bouquet.
• Medical services are also offered. A resident doctor is available day and night.
• Amanpulo offers complimentary island-wide 2MB Wi-Fi connection and Internet access.

A worthwhile adventure

The resort offers a variety of activities to accommodate most people preferrences. According to their homepage, they offer the following activities:

• Water sports – The Island offers different water sports that will enjoy by every traveler.  Sailing, windsurfing, fishing, cruises, snorkeling, and scuba diving are some of the activities while your vacation in the island.
• Scuba diving programs – They also offers scuba diving courses which is a perfect way to start your underwater exploration. It includes all reading materials, a pool training session followed by two training dives in the ocean. The course can be completed within two days but can be spread over as many days as needed to accommodate your schedule.
• Dive sites – The coasts of Sulu Sea have a diverse marine ecosystem of untouched reefs, spectacular drop-offs, caves, grottos, and magnificent corals can be seen. Underwater photographers will definitely love the site.
• Land activities – Exploring the island of Pamalican can be done best by cycling, nature walks, bird watching, turtle hatching, and stargazing. It offers gentle exercise and a fun way to get about.
• Spa and wellness – The Island offers luxury in their private casita and exclusive spa. They give professional services through their personal therapists who help you to rejuvenate, relax, and have a worthwhile vacation.

Beyond Amanpulo

Amanpulo offers the opportunity to visit a great variety of dive sites in Thailand, the Turks and Caicos Islands and Indonesia. Situated on the Andaman coast in Thailand, Amanpuri provides access to a variety of dive sites including the spectacular Koh Dok Mai. This wall dive takes one through caves and crevices filled with scorpion fish, sea anemones, coral and other underwater wonders.

Venture to Amanpulo Island

From Manila – Puerto Princessa
Amanpulo on Pamalican is part of the Quiniluban Group of Cuyo Islands, situated in the north of the Philippine province of Palawan. Located 288 kilometres south of Manila, Pamalican is five kilometres long and only 500 metres across at its widest point.
Philippine Airlines, PAL Express (Formerly Air Philippines), Cebu Pacific, and Zest Air have daily flights from Manila to Puerto Princessa in Palawan and Iloilo on Panay Island. The choice depends on the ferry schedules to Cuyo Island. From Puerto Princesa and from Iloilo, Cuyo can be reached by ferry: 3 times a week from Puerto Princesa to Cuyo / 3 times a week from Iloilo to Cuyo. The same applies for the departure: 3 times from Cuyo Island to Puerto Princesa / 3 times Cuyo to Iloilo.
