SM City Manila is the first SM Supermall in the city of Manila. It is located within the corners of Natividad Almeda-Lopez (formerly called Concepcion), A. Villegas (formerly called Arroceros) and San Marcelino Streets in Ermita, Manila just beside the Manila City Hall. The mall features major SM brands like the SM Department Store, SM Supermarket, SM Cinemas & SM Foodcourt. It has a land area of 25,000 m2 (270,000 sq ft) and a total GFA of 166,554 m2 (1,792,770 sq ft).

Japanese cultural influence, like the Chinese, was prominent in the Davao city. It was also known as the Philippines' Little Japan. Before and even after World War II until now, there are many Japanese residing in the city, most of them with mixed Filipino blood and are now considered citizens of the Philippines. Most of these people live in Davao Japantown and Little Tokyo in Toril. They also have several business establishments in the city, most of which are also located in Chinatown. The city has the largest Japanese community in the country.

The mall is owned by John Gokongwei, founder of JG Summit Holdings and Robinsons Land Corp. It was built in 1990 with a total gross floor area of approximately 216,000 m2 (2,330,000 sq ft). Currently, The entire mall is undergoing major renovations and redevelopment as the West Wing is halfway completed.
