Although referred to as just Liguasan Marsh, the marsh actually consists of two adjoining marshy basins, Liguasan Marsh and Libungan Marsh, with different water regimes. The genus Tragulus means 'little goat' and the Philippine mouse-deer has been named so due to the horizontal pupils of the eyes.
