Explore the Valley of Tanay

The majority of the population consists of Tagalogs who live near Laguna de Bay, though there is also a significant percentage of mountain dwelling people living in the northern portions of the municipality. The town's major trades consist of fishing, agriculture and regional commerce. Tanay is also believed to be the birthplace of the Sambal language.

The Tale of Puente del Diablo
by Jhaypee Guia on August 8, 2012Some call it Punta del Diablo. Yet, since Punta is "point or up" in Spanish and the legend tells of a "bridge", the proper terms seem to be the Spanish Puente. Puente del Diablo in Binangonan, Rizal, is actually a peninsular hill about 20 meters high extending out some 100 meters into the waters of Laguna de Bay. During summer when it has no vegetation growing from its many crags and cracks, its huge, somewhat rectangular rocks give it the appearance of a ruined massive stone bridge.

Sta. Ursula Parish Church

It was originally a chapel built in the late 15th century by the Franciscan missionaries to gain access to the native settlements around Laguna Lake. By the 17th century, it was expanded into a big church to shelter its growing parishioners. Construction was completed in 1800 through the help of a barangay decree which compelled all delinquent male taxpayers to voluntarily work in the church’s construction.
