Unveiling the Hidden Part of Batangas

on December 10, 2014

Faro de Punta de Malabrigo

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear about Batangas? We, Filipinos can answer it even without thinking. And yes, BEAUTIFUL BEACHES it is. Batangas is endowed with destinations encompassing various terrain — from natural to man-made, to preserved greatness of the long-gone era to modernistic structures, from places where you can seek refuge, to sites where one can be lavished with paramount Epicurean treats.

But, there’s this one part of Batangas that I will never get tired of going back to and that is the city of Lobo. The beaches in Lobo may not be as well known as the other beaches in the province, but if you want for a vacation by the sea and under the sun without a huge crowd, head to Lobo and discover its clear waters. One can reach the Lobo’s beaches through the barangays of Fabrica, Malabrigo, Sawang, Soloc, Banalo, Biga, and Olo-olo.

But what makes it truly special? Maybe it is just like any other beaches that you’ll see. It is at the very tip of Batangas, so why would a person even pay attention to this place when it is more convenient for them to go to a beach that is more popular? Does it have fine white sand like in Boracay? Palawan? So what makes it special?

Lobo, Batangas is 134 km away from Manila.  How to get to there?  From Manila, board the bus to Batangas City and get off at Diversion or Balagtas (around P150). Take a jeepney bound for SM Batangas or tricycle and tell the driver to drop you off at the jeepney terminal bound for Lobo. Take another jeepney to Lobo (P53) and then tricycle to Malabrigo Beach.

 Location of Lobo, Batangas

Lobo, Batangas doesn’t have fine white sand like Boracay or Palawan, but you have your options in Lobo: white sand beach or stone beach. This is what makes it  unique. If you are fond of fine white sand, the shoreline of Bgry. Fabrica will give you that. But this time it is the other way around, the Malabrigo Beach the usual white sand that you always see when you are in a beach, here you'll see no sand but pebbles and stones everywhere.

I tried walking without my slippers on, aside from its burning hot because it is 12 in the afternoon it’s like your feet is having an instant massage, it is so relaxing if it’s not hot. Also, if you have interest in different kinds of pebbles and stones, you’ll enjoy collecting and of course I took a few stones, rather A LOT, that I think were very beautiful and unique. If you want to see a bulk of living corals, you’ll see it especially when it is low tide. And the best part of being here is the clear water; it is a must that you bring with you your goggles. If you are stunned by the beauty you see around you, you’ll be more astounded if you see what is beneath the sea. You’ll see that true beauty of Lobo, Batangas. Even if you don’t go too far, you will be able to see the fish circling around the corals, it was like I wasn’t even  around. It is indeed an undisturbed island.

The duration that we stayed at Malabrigo Beach we haven’t seen anyone; it was like we rented the whole island and we can do whatever we wanted to do.  Feel free to do anything just make it sure that it is right and must not abuse it.

And for me, Lobo, Batangas is the best. I’ve been to other beaches before, but this was the place where I was able to say that I wish I was living there, a place where I can have peace of mind, and not being troubled by everything. I want it to stay the way it is, with its preserved beauty.
